Mahendra Rao is internationally known for his research involving human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Dr. Rao has over twenty years of experience in all aspects of the stem cell field including government, academia, and business. Dr. Armand Keating, a co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of panCELLa, stated: “It is an honour to have Dr. Rao join our Board. He brings a wealth of expertise in the area of research and business development. As panCELLa seeks to commercialize their Fail-Safe Cell System, Dr. Rao’s experience and expertise will be invaluable.” Dr. Rao has published more than 200 papers on stem cell research.
He is the co-founder of a neural stem cell company Q therapeutics based in Salt Lake City (Utah) where he continues to serve as Vice-President Strategic Affairs. Since 2014 he has held the position of Vice President of Regenerative Medicine at the New York Stem Cell Foundation and was the founding Director for the Center for Regenerative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health (NIH CRM). Dr. Rao is an accomplished leader within the stem cell community and will be a tremendous asset in shaping panCELLa’s strategic vision.
